It all started with a name.

 

Slowly that name turned into an idea and overtime that simple name started morphing into something more. Is it done yet? No, but it's all starting to come together finally.

I came up with Virgo Rising accidentally. At the time, I was working for a commercial printer as the Social Media manager. For a little back story, the printing industry is a cut throat industry and you have to be careful with what information you share online, specifically any kind of customer information. This has very little to do with protecting customer's information and everything to do with maintaining YOUR customers. Other printers have been known to steal customers if they find out who they are, so it's imperative to keep client information as private as possible. 

 

From a Social Media standpoint, this makes it really hard to showcase what your company can do or does if you can't share any client products. For this reason, I started creating collateral for fake companies that I could showcase printed work for (i.e. business cards, pamphlets, brochures, etc). Thus, Virgo Rising was a random name I generated to create a business card for to showcase what a good business card looks like.  

 

I immediately felt a connection to the name and couldn't get it out of my head. I started researching ideas for how I could use the name. I just loved it so much, I decided to stick with it and turn it into a business name for my own business! I don't have this business up and running yet, but it's all in the works. I've built a brand and logo already and decided, rather than building (and paying for) a whole separate website, I would just apply my branding to my portfolio website and overtime merge the portfolio and business idea into one.

A little more backstory about me and why I thought this name was such a good fit for something in my life: I am, in fact a Virgo. After suffering some pretty substantial setbacks on both a personal and professional level, these last few years I've really felt like I'm rising up in the world.  Since I'm a graphic designer and media communications manager, Virgo Rising just felt right for a Design and Communications business.

 

And so began the next steps: building a brand and logo around a name for a company and then applying that branding across my platforms. Like I said, it's still all a work in progress, but it's something I enjoy working on and am excited to see where the future takes us.  If nothing else, it gives my creative thoughts an outlet and gives me something to ponder  and work on​ when I have nothing better to do.
